Make sure each of your places is recognised as itself

Foursquare keeps a record for each place and shares that data with apps and partners. When two branches share a name, each needs its own record with its own address and hours, or one can be taken for the other.

Which branch

Pick one to change the picture. Each view is also described in words.

  • Your bakery, Station Road
  • Its own record

Your bakery on High Street has its own record: its own address, opening hours and phone number.

  • Your bakery, High Street
  • Your bakery, Station Road
  • Its own record

Your bakery on Station Road shares the name but keeps its own record. If the two were merged, apps could send people to the wrong street.

What matters

Recognised as the right place, and kept current

On Foursquare you can claim an existing listing or create one, then keep its contact details, hours and website up to date. Several locations can be managed from one dashboard.

Foursquare's City Guide app closed in December 2024, but listings carry on in Swarm and in the data Foursquare shares with partners. So the record matters even if you never open a Foursquare app.

Check that each branch appears once, with its own details, and update it when your hours change.

Practical questions

Questions owners ask

When an assistant asks

Assistants can read Foursquare place data

Foursquare publishes open-source MCP code that AI agents can use to search its place data with a service API key. Anything built that way finds the record Foursquare holds for your place, so a duplicate or an old address travels with it.

Two doors

Customers at your physical door.AI agents at your digital door.

At the physical door: customers who walk into the branch they meant to visit.

At the digital door: apps and assistants that can tell one branch from another.
