Know the difference between being found and being booked

A diner can read your OpenTable profile, see an open table and still not have a reservation. Only your reservation system confirms a table. Keeping those three apart shows you where guests drop off.

The profile: what diners read about your restaurant, such as cuisine, price, hours, a description and photos. Reading it holds no table.

An open table: a time your system shows as free right now. It can still go to another guest before anyone confirms it.

A confirmed reservation: it exists only once your reservation system confirms it to the guest, with a time and a party size.

What matters

Found, available and booked are three different moments

Your OpenTable profile carries your cuisine, price range, hours, description and photos, along with diner reviews and the replies you post.

Availability is a current answer from your reservation system. A reservation is the confirmed result, and only your system creates it.

When guests say they could not get a table, check which step failed: the profile, the times shown or the confirmation.

Practical questions

Questions owners ask

When an assistant asks

Assistants can show times, not hold a table

OpenTable describes an app in ChatGPT for discovering restaurants and viewing availability, and its own Concierge assistant that answers diners from your menu, reviews and description. A helpful answer does not reserve a table. The reservation is confirmed by your reservation system.

At the physical door: guests who arrive at a table that is ready for them.

At the digital door: apps and assistants that can tell an open table from a confirmed one.
